The Foreign Investment (Amendment and Validation) Act 2009 updates the Foreign Investment Act by introducing stronger compliance measures, higher penalties, and a system of administrative fines to ensure investors meet their obligations. It clarifies that the Act is deemed to have commenced on 26 June 2006, and validates all actions taken under it before October 2007.
The amendment also empowers the Registrar to issue violation notices, impose penalties, and require corrective actions, while giving investors the right to seek review. It further protects government officials from liability when acting in good faith and confirms the legal validity of past actions under the Act
