Obtaining a Residence (Stay) Permit
Any foreign national intending to stay in Solomon Islands for more than 90 days must obtain a Residence (Stay) Permit from the Immigration Division under Ministry of Commerce, Industry, Labor and Immigration (MCILI). This applies to foreign investors, employees, and dependents.
Process
1. Application requirements
Applicants are generally required to provide:
- Completed Residence Permit application form
- Valid passport
- Copy of work permit or Foreign Investment Certificate (if applicable)
- Proof of reason for stay (employment contract, investment, or family ties)
- Passport-sized photographs
- Police clearance and/or medical certificate (if requested)
- Any other documents requested by the Immigration Division
2. How to apply
Applications are submitted directly to the Immigration Division (MCILI), either in person or through an authorized representative. All supporting documents and the application fee must be included.
3. Fees & processing
- Fee: SBD $1,500–2,000 (approx. US $180–240), depending on the category and duration.
- Processing time: Up to 4 weeks.
- Once approved, the permit will be issued and endorsed in the applicant’s passport. If rejected, applicants will be notified and may appeal.
