Obtaining a Provincial Business License
All businesses operating in Solomon Islands must obtain a business license from the local authority where they operate.
- In Honiara, apply through the Honiara City Council.
- In other areas, apply through the respective Provincial Council.
Process
1. Application requirements
- Company registration certificate (from Company Haus)
- Tax Identification Number (TIN)
- Proof of business address or tenancy agreement
- Shareholder/ownership details
- Foreign Investment Certificate (if applicable)
- Business plan or description of activities (as requested)
2. How to apply
Complete the Business License Application Form from the council’s licensing or finance division. Submit it together with all required documents. In some cases, the application will also be reviewed by other offices (e.g. planning, health, or environment).
3. Fees & validity
- Fee: Varies depending on the province, scale, and type of business — between SBD $500–5,000 (approx. US $60–600).
- Validity: The license is valid for one calendar year and must be renewed annually.
- Once approved and paid, the license is issued by the council and should be kept on file or displayed as required.
