National Fisheries Policy 2019-2029

The National Fisheries Policy 2019–2029, led by the Ministry of Fisheries and Marine Resources, provides a 10-year framework for the conservation, management, development, and sustainable use of Solomon Islands’ fisheries and aquatic resources. It focuses on three major areas: safeguarding inshore and inland fisheries for food security and livelihoods; increasing and diversifying the benefits from offshore tuna resources; and developing a sustainable aquaculture sector to meet future food demand and support rural incomes.

The policy emphasizes ecosystem-based and community-driven management, stronger monitoring and enforcement, international and regional cooperation, and the creation of value-added opportunities to maximize economic and social benefits .
